Angle steel, commonly known in the industry as angle iron, is a long strip of steel with two sides forming a right angle. It is typically made of ordinary carbon structural steel or low-alloy steel.
First, the classification of angle steel.
Angle steel is usually classified according to the specifications of its two sides, into equal-sided angle steel and unequal-sided angle steel.
1. Equal-sided angle steel: Angle steel with two sides of the same length.
2. Unequal-sided angle steel: Angle steel with two sides of different lengths. Unequal-sided angle steel is further divided into unequal-sided equal-thickness angle steel and unequal-sided unequal-thickness angle steel based on the difference in the thickness of the two sides.
Second, characteristics of angle steel:
1. Its angled structure gives it good load-bearing strength.
2. Under the same load-bearing strength, angle steel is lighter in weight, consumes less material, and saves costs.
3. It is more flexible in construction and occupies less space.
Angle steel, due to its high cost-effectiveness, is widely used in various fields such as building construction, bridges, tunnels, power line towers, ships, supports, and steel structures, serving to support or fix structures.
Angle steel specifications are usually expressed as "side length side length side thickness," for example, "50*36*3" indicates unequal angle steel with side lengths of 50mm and 36mm and a thickness of 3mm. Equal angle steel comes in many specifications, selected according to different project requirements; 50mm and 63mm side lengths are commonly used.
The theoretical weight calculation formula for angle steel is: Weight per meter (kg) = (side length mm + side length - side thickness) side thickness mm 0.00785. For example, a 63*63*5 angle steel has a weight per meter of (63 + 63 - 5) 5 0.00785 = 4.749 kg.
