Introduction to HIC/SSC Sulfur-Resistant Hot-Rolled Seamless Steel Pipes

HIC (hydrogen-induced cracking) and SSC (sulfide stress corrosion cracking) resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipes are special steel pipes designed for harsh environments containing corrosive media such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). These hot-rolled seamless steel pipes significantly improve corrosion resistance in wet hydrogen sulfide environments through strict chemical composition control and special heat treatment processes.

In terms of chemical composition, HIC/SSC-resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipes strictly limit the content of harmful elements such as sulfur and phosphorus. For example, smelting analysis requires P ≤ 0.015% and S ≤ 0.003%, while finished product analysis requires P ≤ 0.01% and S ≤ 0.004% to reduce susceptibility to hydrogen-induced cracking and sulfide stress corrosion. Simultaneously, by adding alloying elements and optimizing the smelting process, a dense and stable protective film is formed on the surface of the resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipe, effectively preventing hydrogen atoms from penetrating the metal matrix and delaying the corrosion process.

In terms of mechanical properties, HIC/SSC sulfur-resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipes prioritize enhanced corrosion resistance while maintaining basic strength and toughness. Their tensile strength, yield strength, and other parameters vary depending on the application and industry standards, but all maintain long-term stability in corrosive environments, resulting in a service life far exceeding that of ordinary steel pipes. Furthermore, these hot-rolled seamless steel pipes possess excellent low-temperature impact resistance, adapting to the demands of low-temperature environments.

In terms of manufacturing process, HIC/SSC sulfur-resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipes are produced using the hot-rolling method. Precise control of heating, piercing, and rolling processes ensures dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Simultaneously, precise control of the steel composition during steelmaking and subsequent processing emphasizes improving the surface quality of the hot-rolled seamless steel pipes, with some undergoing special surface treatments such as passivation to further enhance resistance to hydrogen sulfide corrosion. Before leaving the factory, the hot-rolled seamless steel pipes undergo rigorous hydrogen-induced cracking tests and hydrogen sulfide corrosion simulation tests to ensure product performance meets standards.

HIC/SSC sulfur-resistant hot-rolled seamless steel pipes are widely used in petrochemical, natural gas extraction, and other fields, and are an ideal choice for equipment and steel pipes for handling hydrogen sulfide-containing media.
