Introduction to the Quality, Manufacturing Process, Characteristics, and Applications of Large-Diameter Flanges

Large-diameter flanges are a type of flange widely used and promoted in the machinery industry, receiving praise and favor from users. Their applications are broad, determined by different characteristics, and they are often used in situations with relatively mild media conditions, such as low-pressure non-purified compressed air and low-pressure circulating water. Their advantage is their relatively low price. Rolled flanges are suitable for steel pipe connections with a nominal pressure not exceeding 2.5MPa. The sealing surface of rolled flanges can be made smooth, and smooth-faced rolled flanges are the most widely used. The other two types of rolled flanges are also commonly used.

Large-diameter flanges are made by cutting medium plates into strips, then rolling them into circles, and then machining water lines, bolt holes, etc. This generally results in large flanges, which can be up to 7 meters in length. The raw material is a medium plate, which has good density. Large-diameter flange materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steel.

The manufacturing characteristics and applications of large-diameter flanges are mainly reflected in the above aspects. When operating and using large-diameter flanges, we need to understand these characteristics.

There are three types of sealing surfaces for large-diameter flanges: flat sealing surfaces, suitable for low-pressure and non-toxic media; raised face sealing surfaces, suitable for slightly higher pressure applications; and tongue and groove sealing surfaces, suitable for flammable, explosive, toxic media and high-pressure applications. What are the quality control processes for large-diameter flanges?

The quality control processes for large-diameter flanges are as follows: Large-diameter flanges produced using different processes each have their own advantages and disadvantages, but this is not the case. For large-diameter flanges made from medium plates, the treatment of the joint position is crucial; poor welding at this position will lead to leakage. For forged large-diameter flanges, there is a layer of outer skin after the flange is finished. If the bolt holes are drilled precisely into this layer, leakage will occur during pressure testing.

Using the above quality control processes to manufacture flanges and correctly operating to produce a good product is something we all need to consider.
