1. Polishing processing
Polishing is the most effective means of controlling surface irregularities. In the early stages of development, stainless steel was ground with tools such as knives and forks according to its intended use. These uses require stainless steel to have high gloss and must be polished after forming. Therefore, the number of polishing steps is very large. Smooth wide-width cold-rolled coils are generally polished with wide-width jointless grinding belts. The grinding products supplied are in the form of coils and are cheap. Abrasive materials with uniform gloss over large areas have been used for interior and exterior decoration of buildings. The abrasive products not only need to be ornamental but also need to expand their roll formability to make the coil shape straight. This roll-forming process allows long members such as spandrels to be formed in large quantities with high dimensional accuracy, and The price is also very cheap. After annealing and pickling, the grain boundaries on the surface of stainless steel are corroded and are susceptible to foreign matter adhesion, causing rust. The polishing method can make the surface smooth, easy to clean, and easy to find the residue of dirt. Due to these advantages, it is widely used in kitchen machines that require cleaning. In addition to the clean feeling, it also feels good to the hand, so it is also used in bathtubs. As can be seen from the above table, 9 types of stainless steel surfaces change the grinding grit number and are standardized such as HL. In addition, various processing methods including vibration processing with irregular grinding material numbers and combinations with coloring and embossing processing have also been developed. In terms of building materials and home appliances, methods that combine ornamental and functional properties are used in many applications. To prevent the proliferation of bacteria on uneven surfaces, electrolytic polishing methods with healthcare effects are also used.
2. Coating processing
It has been observed that the stainless steel used in ancient buildings does not rust in the parts washed by rain, but the parts of the eaves and ceilings that are not washed by rain do rust. If stainless steel is placed in a state where foreign matter adheres, the passivation film on the surface in contact with the adherend will be destroyed and cannot be repaired, causing corrosion. For this reason, the building must be maintained and managed, and it must be cleaned frequently with water and used once a year. Detergent cleaning. It takes a lot of money to clean a building like a building, so to make the building easy to repair, coated stainless steel is used. The coating film will corrode over time through the action of water and oxygen. However, for stainless steel, the presence of the passivation film plays a beneficial protective role. In addition, because the coating film prevents foreign matter from directly adhering to the stainless steel surface, it protects the passivation film from being damaged and is expected to have a semi-permanent life. Once the stainless steel surface is coated, it loses its own luster and tone, making it look like a colored steel plate. Therefore, a transparent coating that allows the stainless steel base to be seen was developed. However, in the field of architecture, appreciation is important, so various color coatings have been developed. Unlike polishing, these coatings have the following advantages: ① The repair of the welded part is simple; ② Due to the gloss adjustment, the dents of the board are not obvious, etc. Coated materials are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also products that have functions such as heat resistance, waterproofness, antibacterial properties, and lubricity have been developed, and their use is expected to expand.
3. Other processing
Metastable austenitic stainless steels such as sUs301 have high work hardening properties. Taking advantage of this feature, they are mostly used as various spring materials in the rolling state. In addition to abrasive products, in products that control surface unevenness, roller patterns are also developed. Various products with high ornamental value such as embossing and shot blasting use glass beads. In addition to coating, stainless steel coloring methods include chemical coloring, ion spraying, electroplating, and color coating, which are used in high-end building materials and other sectors. Passivation to maintain corrosion resistance has high resistance and poor solderability, so the surface is plated with nickel for use in spring contacts, etc. Due to grinding and drawing, bar steel needs to be processed in various ways with different smoothness and gloss.
